Thinking of Getting a New Heat Pump? Information from Efficiency Nova Scotia on Home Energy Assessments and Available Grants

If you are looking to switch out your existing oil furnace to a ducted heat pump in Nova Scotia, or if you are looking at installing a new ductless heat pump on each floor of your home you are eligible for grants!

Below you can find important info directly from Efficiency Nova Scotia to help you navigate through the process of getting your Home Energy Assessment done (this step is absolutely necessary to qualify for a grant).

To qualify for a rebate on your heat pump installation, you must have your Home Energy Assessment done prior to having any work performed.  At Valley River Heat Pumps, we install ducted and ductless heat pumps that qualify for rebates in the Annapolis Valley.  If you have already scheduled your Home Energy Assessment, and you live in the Annapolis Valley, please click HERE to book your free, no-obligation quote with Valley River Heat Pumps.

We do not perform Energy Assessments.  Please schedule your Home Energy Assessment with one of Efficiency Nova Scotia’s list of providers below:

Here is some more info about the Home Energy Assessment  program. This service is designed to help homeowners identify areas in their homes where they are not as energy efficient as they could be and provides upgrade recommendations.

In Nova Scotia, the Canada Greener Homes Grant is co-delivered with Efficiency Nova Scotia’s Home Energy Assessment program. This means anyone who enrolls in the Home Energy Assessment (HEA) program will also be considered for the federal grant. The new Greener Homes initiative offers grants of up to $5,000 to help Canadian homeowners make energy efficiency retrofits to their primary residences. *** For the Canada Greener Homes Grant you will be required to submit invoices and receipts. It’s important to keep copies of all your documents until March 31, 2028. You can find out more information about documents to keep on their website here.

Steps to Participate:

  1. Start by scheduling a complete energy assessment with one of our delivery partners. They’ll do a comprehensive analysis of the energy efficiency of your home. It generally takes 2-3 hours but depends on your home. Note: A fee of $199+ HST is paid directly to the company you select.

  1. After the assessment, you will receive a detailed report outlining recommendations that could help you save money on your monthly bills. What you choose to do with the recommendations is up to you. Check out our rebate guide for more information on upgrade incentives and Home Energy Assessment eligibility criteria. More details and a list of possible rebates offered through the Canada Greener Homes grants are available here: Canada Greener Homes Program with Natural Resources Canada
  2. After completing all the projects you’ve chosen to perform (and within 12 months of your first assessment), you must call the assessment company back to book your final evaluation. The energy advisor will verify the improvements in the efficiency of your home and submit a report documenting those upgrades to us.
  3. We’ll send you a cheque for the applicable rebates within approximately 90 days of the final assessment.

If you are a low-income homeowner, you may qualify for our HomeWarming program. You could receive home energy upgrades for free. See if you qualify for HomeWarming.
